Light on the Hill

You are the light on the hill
The one that shows us the way
And even though you are gone
Your light still remains.

Life is hard to navigate
And it’s easy to get lost
Those times when we lose our way
You said, “Don’t beat yourselves up
You will get it, you will get it right.”

There is one key to this life’s
Success that’s far and away
More important than the others combined
That’s the decisions we make

You said we’d get it
You said we’d get it right.

Everybody needs to find, find their way
We all know that and it goes, without saying
Those who don’t have someone like you, fall behind
If they don’t have someone whose wisdom shines.

You are the light on the hill
And your guidance still shines
I know that it always will
For the rest of our lives.

Darling

Darling starts to yell
Every night just about this time (that’s right).

They all know it’ll start
Soon after the second glass of wine (that’s right).

She says, “Life’s too much”
But she says it every day (that’s right).

If she pours another glass
They know things will never change (that’s right).

She loves to tell us that we don’t understand
She loves to yell at us that we just can’t.

Darling likes to sing
Along with the songs that play (that’s right).

And as she sways to the beat
They pray it’ll be okay, all right, okay.

But she turns on a dime
Gets angry, they see it every night (that’s right).

With the third glass of wine
She’s sure to pick a fight (that’s right).

She loves to tell us that we don’t understand
She loves to yell at us that we just can’t.

How did they get, how did they get to this place?
Seemed innocent, getting drunk that first day.
How did they get, how did they get to this place?
Yes he regrets getting her drunk that first day.

Another repeat

How many years went by
Before you grew up and stopped asking why?
How many years went by?

Another violent act portrayed
On the world stage
It’s just the same play
We’ve been seeing every day

Heard the same lines for years
Seen the actor’s tears
Wonder when the writers are gonna
Have something new to say

Everybody shouts “revenge”
Then they shout “avenge”
Never stop to wonder
If what they’re shouting even makes sense

“For our fathers
Our brothers
Our sisters
Our mothers!”

‘Round and ’round and ’round it goes
Where it stops everybody knows
‘Cause it’s still just the same show

Just another repeat

Of a history that’s violent
And is justified as a means

To an end that never comes
So get out your guns
Engrave your bullets
And find a spot to land your bombs

‘Cause when you finally think you’re done
You’re never done
You’re never done
You’re never really, really done

All of the world
I am ready to love
All of my heart’s
Ready to be touched
I am here, I am here
I am ready to learn
Can anybody show me the way?

If the only constant is change
And that’s the saying
Then why do things remain the same?
(Don’t ask why, if you don’t know by now
You ain’t ever gonna know why)

Why when a leader’s replaced
By a new face
They still find themselves in the same place?

Why when a crisis erupts
The prices go up
And it always ends up punishing us?

If they really wanted peace
In the middle east
Then how come the killing doesn’t cease?

Why do so many believe
All that they see
The propaganda on their t.v. screens?

Someone tell me how the hell
These leaders do so well
Pushing all the lies that they sell?

All of the world
I am ready to love
All of my heart’s
Ready to be touched
I am here, i am here
I am ready to learn
Can anybody show me the way?
